If you are like me and use an iOS device with an older processor like the iPhone 3GS or iPod touch, you might have noticed that the App Store occasionally crashes. Every time you use its search feature. This, of course, can make installing new apps a hassle, and I begrudgingly turned to buying apps through iTunes on my laptop and going through the very long process of syncing apps. Then another, much easier, solution hit me.
- Search for the app you want in Safari* on your iOS device.
- Click on the iTunes link in the search results.
- Safari will open the link in the App Store where you can download it just as if you had searched for it within the store.
It’s a pain that there should be any workaround here at all. Searching the App Store is one of the most basic and common things a person will do with their iPod, iPhone, or iPad; yet Apple is yet to fix these crashes on older devices. Fortunately, this solution is pretty painless and removes any need to sync your device.
* I tried this in Chrome as well, but App Store did not always launch when I hit the iTunes link. Your mileage in other browsers may vary.
